Well I've been ripped off. This book is has far too many of errors and omissions. The first two things I tried to look up - either wrong or not there - the Nikon Manual is easier to use, better cross referenced and accurate. Two examples:
Example 1: I have some early 1980's Nikon AI lens. And i know my new D7100 can use these. So I go to chapter 11, Working with Lenses - it tells me I can use AI lenses but does not tell how. The reason I buy a book and don't use the supplied manual is that books provide all the info you need to achieve something in one place. So for an old AI lens what should have been there is (all in the one place) - something like this:
1. Define lens to camera - up to 9 lens can be used (Setup Menu/Non CPU lens data)
2. Assign a button to tell which lens you are using (Custom setting F2, other options also)
3. Mount the lens
4. Using the assigned button tell the camera which lens you have mounted
5. you can only use A or M shooting modes
6. (do you need to do anything with the AF/M lever - I suspect not)
7. use the focus indicator in the viewfinder to focus (if lens max aperture is f5.6 or wider)
In the end it was easier to use the Nikon Manual than the book to achieve the above.
By the way Chapter 11 has the feel of someone who is doing a cut and paste of generic stuff to get their word/page count up.
Page 367 - he says that a normal lens for a D7100 is 35mm (thats correct) and then describes a number of options to consider - Opps - All the lenses described are 50mm lenses.!!!! Cut and paste from a FX text to this DX text. Well at least the book is a bit thicker.
Somewhere else in the book he states the D7100 is a full frame camera!!! Another typo.
