Karen Sperling's Painting for Photographers takes the intimidation out of turning photographs into painted masterpieces. ---- Picture Soup Blog, Diane Berkenfeld
The book is packed with information. It's what I call a workshop book, and it's very much learn by doing. Each exercise is explained in detail, so that you are led by the hand as in a well-run workshop. There isn't a lot of fluff here, as in many computer books. It's all meat and potatoes. From the Author
Dear Professional Photographers and Hobbyists,
If you think you can paint your photos, you probably can. Painting starts as an interest that develops into a passion as you learn the art theories and Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop techniques for turning photos into paintings covered in Painting for Photographers.
The book is divided into four sections: 1. Art theories and software basics; 2. Painting people and pet portraits from photos in Painter and Photoshop; 3. Painting landscapes from photos in Painter and Photoshop; and 4. Painting with oils and acrylics on the canvas after the artwork is printed.
The book includes techniques for painting the looks of various media, from watercolors to pastels and oils, in both impressionistic and photorealistic styles.
There are three ingredients for turning photos into paintings in Painter and Photoshop--the art lessons and software steps, both of which are provided in Painting for Photographers--and the third ingredient--practice. Your next painting will be better than your last painting and while you are painting, everything is an interim step and will always get better the more you work on the painting. Learning to paint from photos takes some study and work, but the more you do it, the better you will get at it, and the more personally rewarding and satisfying it will be.
Ultimately, professional photographers profit by selling their paintings to clients and in other ways, including exhibiting their art, and hobbyists enjoy painting their kids, grandkids and travels and giving the paintings as gifts to others.
Painting for Photographers is for all levels of Painter and Photoshop users. It has the basics for beginners and it also has for everyone from beginners to advanced users my personal techniques that I've developed for the 20 years I've used Painter and Photoshop since I wrote the first several Painter program manuals starting with version 1. Everyone has their own way of working with Painter and Photoshop and you will find useful techniques in Painting for Photographers even if you have studied Painter and Photoshop with other teachers.
Painting for Photographers was a labor of love that has hit the spot for many photographers and hobbyists who would like to paint their photos.
If you think you can paint photos, you probably can. Let me show you how in Painting for Photographers!
Happy painting!
