If you have a D600 you need this book. MASTERING THE D600 shows you is a straight forward easy to understand way just how this camera works. It explains the how and why for just about every setting for the D600 and with enough samples and graphics that anyone can feel comfortable with this magnificent camera. I already own Mr. Young's D300 book and thought enough of it that when I ordered the D600 book I bought both the paperback version and the e-book. I like being able to take it with me on my iPad for easy reference when I'm in the field shooting with my D600. If you own a Nikon D600 you'll be more than happy if you buy this great resource.

To be honest, when I got the book, and saw that most of it simply explained every item on every menu, I was a bit disappointed, thinking that after my years of using the D90 and the F5, I had a firm grasp of what I wanted the camera to do for me. But I plowed through it anyway. It was a revelation. He explains each feature simply, lets you know which features he uses and why. And if he doesn't use it, he explains under which circumstances you might find the feature useful. It definitely opened up new capabilities in the camera I would have never known were there. He follows that up with a more thorough discussion of critical features like white balance and auto focus. Especially useful is a discussion of the evolution of Live View, a feature I looked down my nose at, thinking it was nothing more than a crutch for point-and-shooters, but now want to experiment with. I never knew it used a different way of acquiring focus that was a touch slower than through the viewfinder, but theoretically more precise. Again, he explains which situations you might try Live Focus. He also explains the video capability, which is at the forefront of Nikon technology, tempting me to finally take the plunge. Kudos to the writer for being able to pass on his extensive and technical knowledge so effortlessly to make difficult concepts easy to understand. This book will help you get the most out of the D600. Highly recommended.
