I have purchased David Busch's Field Guides for every Nikon DSLR I have had the pleasure to own...D40X, D60, D300S, and D7000. I appreciate the large color images and his writing style is easily comprehended.
When I got my D800E, I immediately pre-ordered his book. Although the release date was delayed a few times, the wait was well worth it! The full Field Guide is a tremendous comprehensive resource.
The Compact Field Guide came to great use. I had just shot Sandhill Cranes the night before and was really frustrated with my results. The D800E frame rate per second at 4 is difficult, but not impossible to shoot birds. Opening the book and reading the section on auto focusing, which was right at the beginning, I realized how differently I could have set my camera to better get the results I was striving for.
The size of this book and the spiral binding makes it easy to keep in your car and access when you are out shooting--or relaxing at home.
David Busch provides detailed information and does not duplicate the owner's manual.

Anyone who has purchased a D800/E will soon come to realize that although Nikon makes great cameras and lenses, the company truly sucks at writing a useful manual. David Busch has addressed this deficiency with his many camera books - including his latest on the D800/E. Unfortunately - and due to the great complexity of this camera - his full book weighs a ton and is not tote-friendly by any means.
Being the smart cookie he is, Busch wrote a smaller condensed version of his excellent text with this compact field guide. I purchased both the full book and the compact version for carrying around.
