But maybe you’re ready to set aside your trepidation and take the leap into the mysterious world of film. If so, let Fearless Photographer: Film in the Digital Era be your guide. This is not a book on how to develop and process film, although those topics are covered to an extent. Rather, it’s a primer on how to shoot film—how to create breathtaking images on a medium that until recently, many believed to be a relic of the past. But film is making a resurgence, not only as a niche area of the field, but also as a way for any shooter to capture tangible images that won’t be lost to future generations, relegated to long forgotten memory cards or defunct hard drives. Filled with easy-to-understand explanations and countless photographic examples, FEARLESS PHOTOGRAPHER: FILM IN THE DIGITAL ERA will walk you through making the transition from digital shooting to film shooting. At the end of the book, a series of film-shooting assignments will give you hands-on practice in this new-to-you medium.Books with free ebook downloads available Free Download Fearless Photographer: Film, 1st ed. Having never left the world of film completely, I rather enjoyed this book. About 20-30 years ago, most books carried information of this level for the film photographer. But, you had to hunt around for it. This book is a good combination of technique, tips, and materials.
This book is not really written for people like me, that never left film photography. It's more for the people that have never used a typewriter, or played a 45 on a record player. Although I found it entertaining, it didn't bring much new to the table for someone that has that experience. However, I would not think of rating the author down. The book is very accessible and I am not the target audience.
If you are firmly entrenched in digital, this is a must for a change of pace. Sometimes, you have to step out of your chosen medium to really stretch your art.

This was so much more than a book for me - it was a gentle push saying that it's ok to doing something out of my comfort zone and to play with film again. My background is very similar to Joe's - starting on a newspaper with film and creating the layouts in QuarkExpress (I actually never thought I would hear that software name ever again in my life!). When I went to digital in 2004, I never looked back - until last weekend when I actually shot a wedding half in film and half in digital. It was freeing!
The book reminded me about everything in the film realm and I was really excited to find out about the current film options and what cameras I can use! I read the whole thing in one sitting, it was so captivating!
