First off, let me start by saying this books is impressive! I've been a professional photographer for about 15 years now and my collection of photography books fills a couple of shelves in my library. I must say that this is definitely the most complete guide covering all aspects of photography--including many items most photographers never think of. Including responsibilities of a photojournalist, essential gear & other essential items, proven successful shooting methods, many examples of tough yet remarkable photos and how they were captured, ethics, business planning, etc.
Pearsall's book is a must have for every aspiring photographer out there, and even us pros can pick up a few new tricks to help us become better photographers. Her photos will inspire you, a her sage-like advice and explanations will help guide you to success.
Pearsall is one of the best at what she does, and enjoys sharing her knowledge and experiences with others.

My book arrived while I was out of town. I didn't open it until the next morning after I went through my mail. I figured I would just thumb through it before I sit down later and actually read it. I could not but the book down. I had to read it right then and there. The photos told a story in themselves. I found myself riveted to the stories behind the photos. While the photos were incredible, the stories made them personally. I could feel the pain and anguish as Stacy made her decision to take photos of her dying friend.
I am glad she told the real deal on how to handle the bodily needs in the field. This is something the military always neglects to tell servicewomen. You are expected to figure it out on your own. Great job Stacy. You cut that learning curve down.
I will never be a photojournalist, but I found I could not put this down until I finished it. If you think of this book as a how to, you will miss the true meaning. There is more depth than just the technical aspect of photojournalism.
Thank you for a wonder story.
