Free Download A Short Course in Digital Photography
I recently bought this book (new) on Amazon for a community college class in Digital Photo 101. My instructor ended up deciding that this book is optional for his class. This was not happy news because the book cost around $40 and now I need to sell it back. It is a good enough book for complete beginners. You could read the manual that comes with your camera and get similar information. There is nothing new here. It covers the basics in a superficial but straight forward manner. There are better books available at more reasonable prices.

This is a very nicely designed and written book that goes over all the fundamentals you need to know to get into Digital Photography. Exposure, lenses, shutter speed, different types of cameras, etc. It's relatively short, but it goes beyond what's in your camera manual and touches on all the important fundamentals.
