Vintage-looking, dream-like textures can open up a whole new world in your photography. However, there is much, much more to working with textures than simply merging them with an image via Photoshop. In this gorgeous new guide from texture guru Sarah Gardner, you'll learn everything there is to know about how to maximize the potential of these exciting tools. In addition to hundreds of beautiful example images, this book is also packed with practical advice on what makes a good texture, and how and when to use them. How an image is initially captured and processed has a significant impact on the effect a texture will have, so you'll also learn what to consider when composing and shooting (rather than simply relying on post-processing) and how to use lighting and background considerations effectively for later work with textures. Workshop notes and a supplemental website will help you put Sarah's techniques into practice immediately. Beautiful enough to sit on your coffee table yet practical enough to store near your computer, this book will show you everything you need to know to get that coveted vintage-feel in your images, whether you're a casual family snapper or a seasoned professional.

This book is strictly for beginners. It is a short book containing much about the author's life and art philosophy. When she talks about textures it is in relation to how she does it and not all the many other possibilities. It is not a textbook or learning tool but seems more of an ego trip for her and a promo piece for her photography business. While it contains some good points there are not that many. To get the book as long as it is the book designer used full page layouts that were excellently designed but did not lead to greater knowledge. I have given it 2 stars because of the outstanding design otherwise 1 would have been sufficient.
P.S. I find that the book description is totally misleading.

Since first viewing Sarah Gardner's photo art, I've been a fan. This book delivers as promised. It acquaints the reader with the author's artistic journey and working style, then moves on to shooting with textures in mind and explanation of textures before sharing her work flow. Sarah acknowledges that there are different ways in Photoshop to get to the finished image; but this is her book so it is expected and appreciated that she shares the processes that she uses. And to fully engage our visual senses, the book is full of gorgeous textured images. It is a beautiful and informative book, but if I could use only one word to describe it, that word would be inspirational!
I wait-listed the book on Amazon with their promise to notify me when the book was available. That notification from Amazon never came.
