for anyone else out there who had the game guide to the first game, we know it was good, but not fantastic. that being said, this guide seems a little better than the first, but still with a few weird issues.
the chapters are as follows:
game basics
palanai guide to zombie watching
walkthrough (198 pages of the guide is dedicated solely to this)
team quests
weapon crafting
collectibles
points of interest
co-op play
achievements and trophies
the game basics are helpful, both to newcomers, and as a refresher to anyone who has played the first game. the character outlines are great, especially for the new character. if you played the first, you can import your original character to the new game at the level you were at, with all the skills you had invested in. if you choose not to do this and start fresh with the new character (who looks pretty great), you apparently get 15 points to spend right off the bat.
the enemy listing is fantastic. it's always nice to know their weaknesses.
the walkthrough is solid. it is filled with decent sized photos so you can see what the text is referencing. some guides print impossibly small photos along with the walkthrough, and i can safely say this guide does not suffer from that issue.
i really enjoyed the weapon crafting section. not only does it have a full list of blueprints, but also where or how you obtain them, as well as what is required to craft them. this will prove to invaluable along the way.
the collectibles section is fantastic. numbered items on the map show exactly where you will find them.
the points of interest section was a nifty addition.
This is an absolutely horribly written guide. I mean you would think there would be editors to check this to make sure the idiot writers were corrected.
Unfortunately that didn't happen.
THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
First Mistake: There is a section in which all of the Dead Zone bosses are listed. 12 out of 13 are listed. Where's the 13th? In the Enemies section. Joe "Ogre" Somare isn't even in the Dead Zone section. Are you kidding me? They can't get it organized????
Second Mistake: The guide claims that one of the collectables listed at the end of game is in a place called "Nick's House." While it is in Nick's house it claims that you'll get the collectable during a quest called "Hidden Data." THERE IS NO QUEST CALLED HIDDEN DATA. None at all. Zero. Zip. Where the hell did they get this from? Were they just bored so they decided to make up stuff not in the game? Wow.
Third Mistake: Miscellaneous errors pop up frequently. Such as a "Rescue Carlos" quest. I rescued him but then i also noticed RIGHT ON THE NEXT PAGE "Rescue Carlos" yet the quest was rescuing a man named Kyle. There are also plenty of spelling mistakes such as "Docks" being spelled as "Docs." How pathetic.
Final Mistake: This is the worst of them all. They screwed up the Collectable section up so much I had to go online to fix it. Are you kidding me?????? The two sections screwed up are the "Angela Guerra Recordings" and the "Postcards from Palanai" The writers claim there are 60 Collectables in the game. Wrong. There are 61 yet they only listed 59. They didn't even include the 15th Postcard. only 1-14. Then to top off the horrid crap cake the recordings are all wrong. Recording 5 (which is apparently found in a bunker by the BioSphere) is not #5.
