This innovative product uses interactive video to explain everything a beginner needs to know to create polished-looking videos with iMovie 11, from importing and organizing video files to using special effects like Green Screen, which lets you superimpose video footage of a person onto any background you want. Users will learn how to adjust the color of video clips, stabilize shakiness, and use Themes--which give a project special transitions, titles, and graphics. A major component is learning to build a movie by assembling and editing clips, and users will learn various ways to share their finished movie, such as creating a DVD and sharing online.
Experienced instructor Maxim Jago presents 3 hours of exceptional quality video tutorials, complete with lesson files, assessment quizzes, and review materials. The video is wrapped in a unique interface that allows the viewer to jump to any topic and also bookmark individual sections for later review. The unique Watch-and-Work mode shrinks the video into a small window to allow the student to work alongside in iMovie. Project files used in the lessons are included on the disc so viewers can practice what they've learned, and interactive review questions help reinforce freshly gained knowledge.
The DVD-ROM is bundled with a printed booklet that provides supplemental material to enhance the video training.

When it was discovered that Apple discontinued Final Cut Express, (I make Spring Ski Movies of my daughter each year), I was rather disappointed, mainly the fact that now I have to learn a completely new software program all over again. After much research, I quickly learned that Apple totally revamped iMovie 11, with a totally new interface, etc. They not only created a whole new video editing software program (bundled with iLife 11), but made the software much more robust, than the previous versions. In addition, it comes close to Final Cut Express, as a total editing program with Themes and Trailers, and you don't have to spend $300, or so.
Concluding that iMovie 11 is the solution for my needs, then comes the question how do I learn iMovie 11? Apple does not provide much training online, so the choices are 1), You Tube videos, 2), an iMovie training book or manual, or 3), an iMovie training Learn by Video DVD. I learned a long time ago that hands on video editing is EASIER (and faster) to learn via DVD Video training, than books and manuals. However, I think its also important (but certainly not essential) to also have a training manual as a supplement to the DVD.
Which Learn by Video DVD? There were no reviews on "Make Your First Video with iMovie 11". I took the chance and have been working with the Learn by Video DVD for the past two weeks.
I am so glad I did! This was the PERFECT solution. The You Tube Videos were short and not complete, so it really is a good investment to spend a little to obtain real quality video training, where you can go back to the lessons and watch over and over, if you need to, plus I am not falling asleep trying to learn through a huge manual.
The video itself is very well done.
