There have been well-over 100 Classroom in Book publication releases in the past 16 or so years. "Adobe SpeedGrade CC Classroom in a Book" (CIB) is somewhere around our 95th and the one we have been anxiously anticipating the most, since we heard of Adobe's SpeedGrade (Sg) acquisition. As Adobe Community Professionals (ACP) we have quite a few ACP pals, worldwide, some of whom are amongst the most technically astute on the planet when it come to filmmaking, but we have yet to hear anyone say, "I've mastered this SpeedGrade thing."
Adobe is working like crazy to make Sg better and better. SpeedGrade 7 (CC) has made a big leap forward since Sg 6 (CS6). Since Adobe has promised to push out feature-rich "dot releases," 2 or 3 times a year we can expect to see Sg become even greater. Does that mean that this book is inevitably destined for obsolescence maybe even before you've read this review? Nothing could be further from the truth. To some degree, this is a living book. Instead of a DVD being bound into a back-of-the-book, there's an access code for downloading all the book's project files. http://www.peachpit.com/redeem is where you'll get new chapters in the form of PDFs as well as the project files which go with those chapters. These will match the dot release new features. Very innovative.
CH 1 - OVERVIEW - SpeedGrade is used as either a member of the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) family or a stand-alone app, for those who grade for video, Sg is not just for making footage pretty, it can be an essential tool in meeting broadcast technical standards. If you're familiar with such Adobe apps as Premiere Pro (Pr), Photoshop (Ps), Illustrator (Ai), Audition (Au), Prelude (Pl), and After Effects (Ae), when you open Sg, you have every right to react with, "You've gotta be kidding.
