This guide is well-written and includes many good color photos to illustrate the features and functions the author is highlighting. For people who are familiar with Nikon DSLRs in general, he mentions specifically when features & functions differ from other common Nikons - but he doesn't assume that background; he fully covers each feature on its own so that I (who have not used Nikons previously, and am new to DSLRs in general) didn't feel left behind.
I appreciate the book being available in Kindle format; it's terrific having the manual available on my Kindle for study - on my iPad for a better look at the excellent illustrations in full color - and on my iPhone for quick reference in the field.

Learning how to "operate" something and learning how to "use" something are two different disciplines. Learning how to operate the controls of a Boeing 747 is one thing, knowing how to fly a 747 is something altogether different. I was hoping to learn how to use my $1000+ toy but this book didn't do it for me. The factory manual isn't all that bad actually as far as the "operating" deal goes and this book is basically a re statement with a few suggestions here or there and on nicer paper. I was able to figure out the button pushing, scrolling, selecting operations in about 10 min, I didn't need another hundred pages or more of boring sequences of button pushing to teach me how to "operate" the camera...... I wanted to know how to use it! The book is fine if you want a better restatement of the factory manual but has little else to offer.
