I'm a dummy with regard to picture alteration but otherwise think I'm relatively intelligent. This book is poorly organized and difficult to use unless you read the 600 pages from beginning to end and have a remarkable memory.

This book is difficult to use. There seems to be no organizational structure to it, you can't just start at page one and read to the end and learn Elements. I tried but quickly ended up stuck. For example the histogram isn't even discussed until page 219. After you become a little familiar with Elements then you have to jump all over the book to learn the most simple of operations. And the index is not specific enough to locate what you want. I have had to order another book to help me out.
