About the Author
Robert W. Winters is an experienced medical scientist, practitioner and teacher. He is a graduate of Indiana University (AB summa cum laude) and of the Yale School of Medicine (MD cum laude). He did his postgraduate training in clinical medicine and in basic biochemistry at the Universities of California, North Carolina and Pennsylvania before accepting a Professorship of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. The groundbreaking work that Dr. Winters and his research group accomplished in 20 years at Columbia is documented in 105 peer-reviewed papers and in four monographs. He received two national awards for excellence in clinical research and has been honored by his election to several of the preeminent American medical societies and to the Royal Society of Medicine, London. During his tenure as Professor, Dr. Winters was recognized as a physician with a critical eye and as a gifted teacher with a knack for explaining complex concepts in simple and understandable terms. His exceptional skills as a speaker have been recognized by medical students and house staff and by numerous guest lectureships, both in the USA and abroad. He now lives in Helsingør, Denmark with his wife, and writes on medical topics of interest to the general reader
