good book with step by step instructions for beginners, however, limited format to which device/platform you can read it on.

I haven't worked with most of these programs before. This book made it very simple to understand. First it thoroughly explains the programs and features you are going to use in the exercise. Then it goes step by step through an exercise using what you have just learned. It even covers minor details that usually don't occur as a precaution. Using this for a class in computer programming and it makes the class very easy.
